Why You Will love this Recipe

You can cook up some air fryer chicken breasts for the week and use the chicken for Air Fryer Chicken Quesadillas, Summer Cobb Salad, or DIY Weight Watchers Burrito Bowls.

Air fryers do not heat up the whole entire house like an oven does. I rarely turn on my oven anymore to make those 3 items above and the air fryer doesn't heat up your space.

Once you master basic chicken in the air fryer you can make air fryer chicken nuggets, parmesan chicken, or the Best Air Fryer Whole Chicken.

Chicken Breast - make sure the chicken breasts are even in size for proper cooking. Use an oven read thermometer for proper doneness

Seasoning - I have a few ideas on how you can season your chicken breast below but I like to use Dano's seasoning.

Step 3: Place chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer and set the temperature to 400 degrees. Close the basket and set the timer at 7 minutes. After 7 minutes take the chicken out and flip and cook for another 4 minutes longer. Check for temperature doneness with an instant read thermometer.

How to season chicken breasts?

There are many different ways you can flavor up this chicken. My recipe below calls for seasoning salt of choice and salt and pepper.

Some other seasonings that would be great for chicken breasts are lemon pepper seasoning, Taco Seasoning, Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning, Trader Joe’s All Purpose Seasoning Salt, and Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute.

Seasoning Blend Spices: Onion powder, garlic powder, paprika

Chicken marinadeswill also cook in the air fryer. I'd suggest placing a sheet of parchment down before cooking so that none of the marinade drips. -Easy 3 Ingredient Chicken Marinade Recipe

Tips for Air Fryer Chicken Breast

One easy way to transform any chicken breast in the air fryer is to use a chicken brine before air frying the breasts. Find my recipe for Chicken Brine here!Chicken Brine Recipe

Use a meat thermometer to check and see if your chicken breast is properly done inside. Poke the chicken breast with a thermometer. It has to be at a temperature of 165 degrees for it to be done. Some air fryers might require longer cooking times for chicken.

Brushing your chicken with oil or using cooking spray is optional. I think spraying the chicken with oil helps with the skin drying out while cooking.

Chicken breasts arezero points on Weight Watchers if you don't add any type of oil to the chicken when cooking it in your air fryer. Prepare a few chicken breasts for the week to use on salads, pizza, casseroles, and quesadillas, or make DIY burrito bowls.

Chicken Breast Sizes and Cooking Times

Depending on the size of your chicken breast will vary for cooking times. Another good tip for making sure chicken cooks properly is to pound the breasts out so that they are all even in size. Make sure the basket isn't overcrowded with chicken either.

  • Small Breasts (5 to 7 ounces): 7 to 10 minutes
  • Medium Breasts (8 to 10 ounces): 10 to 12 minutes
  • Large Breasts (11 ounces or more): 12 to 16 minutes

FAQs

How do you keep chicken breast from drying out in an air fryer? ›

The #1 tip for the best chicken breasts in an air fryer is: Don't overcook them! Chicken breasts should be cooked to 160°F, but if you cook them all the way to that temperature in the air fryer, carryover cooking will take them beyond that temp and cause them to dry out.

How long does chicken breast go in the air fryer? ›

Air fry according to the size of your chicken breasts — again, 4-5oz breasts will take 10-12 minutes, 6-8oz breasts will take 13-15 minutes, and 9-120z breasts could take 16-20 minutes — or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees as measured by an instant read thermometer, flipping the chicken breasts ...

Should I spray oil on chicken in an air fryer? ›

First, there is a health benefit to air frying over deep frying or pan frying. While I do recommend very lightly spraying the fried chicken with oil before and during air frying, you don't submerge the pieces entirely in oil, and as a result, they undoubtedly absorb less oil in the process.

Should you put raw chicken in an air fryer? ›

Cook for approximately 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the chicken is golden brown and crispy on the outside. Adjust time based on the size and thickness of the chicken pieces. Can you cook raw meat in an air fryer? Not only can, but I do.

What is the best way to cook chicken breasts to keep them moist? ›

Getting a good sear through medium high heat, then reducing the heat to LOW and COVERING the chicken while it cooks. The butter, oil, and chicken juices create a super flavorful liquid that acts as a way to steam the chicken at a low temperature, ensuring that it is moist & tender on the inside.

How do I make sure my chicken breast is moist? ›

1) Marinate the chicken in water, wine, or other liquids for up to an hour before cooking. This will tenderize the meat and add flavor. 2) Slowly cook the chicken on low heat with a lid on top for about 15-20 minutes per pound of chicken. The lid prevents the chicken from drying out too much.

Is chicken breast better in the oven or air fryer? ›

The air fryer allows you to cut out excess oil while retaining ultra-crispy skin or delicious caramelization on chicken cuts. It's fast: Compared to an oven, chicken cooks quite efficiently in the air fryer. Typically, you'll shave off about 30 percent to 40 percent of the cooking time by using an air fryer.

Why was my chicken breast rubbery in the air fryer? ›

The most likely reason for tough chicken in the air fryer is overcooking. Be sure to cook it to only 160-degrees and then allow it to rest for 5-minutes tented with foil. Do you have to flip chicken in the air fryer? For best results, you should flip your chicken in the air fryer halfway through.

Should I use aluminum foil when air frying chicken? ›

Air fryers work by circulating hot air, which originates at the bottom of the fryer. Lining it with foil can constrict the air flow and your food won't cook properly. If you are going to use aluminum foil in an air fryer, use a small amount in the bottom of the basket, making sure not to cover the food.

Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer? ›

Foil is safe to use in an air fryer so long as you follow three basic rules: never let foil touch the heating element; make sure the foil is weighted so it doesn't blow around the basket; and avoid contact with acidic ingredients, which can cause the foil to leach onto your food.

How do you keep meat from drying out in an air fryer? ›

Using oil

Using oil in an air fryer is perfectly fine and helps the meat to remain moist and come out looking golden brown. However, a little oil in an air fryer does go a long way. With most cuts of pork, simply rubbing some oil into the meat will be all you need. You can use either regular olive oil or a spray oil.

Can you put water in an air fryer to keep chicken moist? ›

It's ok to add a small amount of water to your air fryer and can even be beneficial in some instances. The main reason for using a small amount of water is that it can help the food retain moisture while cooking and prevents burning. It can also reduce the amount of smoke if you're cooking greasy foods.

What is the best temperature to air fry chicken breast? ›

After testing a variety of temperatures, I found that 375 degrees F is the best temperature for air frying chicken. Because the air fryer uses convection heat, you do not need to set it as high as you would an oven (in a regular oven, 425 degrees F is best for baking chicken, like Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast).

What temperature should chicken be cooked at in an air fryer? ›

Place the chicken on the air fryer basket / grate in an even layer, leaving a bit of space for air to circulate around. Air fry the chicken at 415 degrees for 10 minutes. If you have larger pieces of chicken, you'll want to go closer to 13 minutes. You're looking for an internal temperature of 165 degrees.
